Clover Glen Outbreak Overview

Clover Glen, a newly built $15 million senior living complex in the Westland neighborhood, was designed to offer independent living for seniors aged 55 and above. But in early 2025, a troubling outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease, a severe form of pneumonia caused by the Legionella bacteria, raised serious concerns among residents and their families.

According to the Columbus Public Health Department, four confirmed cases of Legionnaires’ disease have been reported, with the most recent case occurring in February 2025. The bacteria responsible for the illness were found in the building’s water system, which was subsequently flushed, and filters were installed on water outlets to ensure the safety of remaining residents.

Despite reassurances from Clover Glen’s management, some residents—such as Tim Million, whose mother was diagnosed with the disease—have expressed concerns about the level of transparency surrounding the outbreak. Some are even considering legal action to access full records related to the incident.

Clover Glen’s operators, National Church Residences, have stated that they are taking proactive steps to address the issue, including working with public health authorities and water quality experts.

Public Health Response:

The City of Columbus’s Public Health Department has been working closely with Clover Glen’s management to investigate the Legionella contamination and prevent further cases. The department has coordinated onsite visits and provided guidance on water system management. Measures include flushing the building’s water system with disinfectants and installing filters to protect residents from exposure.

While testing has shown that the water supply is currently free of Legionella bacteria, public health officials continue to monitor the situation.
